The Blueprint is never fight an undefeated black fighter. Beat up "their" guys. Everyone knows we are unbeatable. But they will put up big bucks to try to get "their" guys to win against a black champion. America subconsciously wants someone who looks like them to win the title.
It wasn't until the 20th century that nations with large immigrant populations, like Australia and the United States, held sports competitions that pitted members of one "race" against another. When African American Jack Johnson took the heavyweight title from the Irish boxer Tommy Burns, the race issue in sports reached a new level. Some people did not believe that African Americans had what it took to become heavyweight champions in the "manly art" of boxing. Jack Johnson held the title from 1908-1915, during this time he fought 10 times, 1 black fighter who already lost 6 times, and 9 European fighters. Johnson fought all the tough black fighters BEFORE he won the title. The first Great white Hope fight was staged In 1908 when Johnson won the title against European tommy burns. "American novelist Jack London wrote a newspaper column that summed up his position -- and that of many Americans: [I] was with [Tommy] Burns all the way. He was a white man and so am I. Naturally I wanted to see the white man win. Put the case to Johnson and ask him if he were the spectator at a fight between a white man and a black man which he would like to see win. Johnson's black skin will dictate a desire parallel to the one dictated by my white skin." (Top left) The second great white hope fight took place in 1910. Jack Johnson (38-5) vs Jim Jefferies (19-0) who came out of a six year retirement just to dethrone the black champion. A famous quote from the fight "It's up to you, Jeff, to save the white race."—Jack London to James J. Jeffries on the eve of Jeffries' fight with Jack Johnson in 1910. Because of the Revolution Jack Johnson made agaisnt the white hopes. They changed the rules when Joe Louis became champ. Historian Jeffrey Sammons lists a few of Louis' "good Negro" rules: "He could not gloat over opponents. He could not be seen in public with white women. He had to be seen as a Bible-reading, mother-loving, God-fearing individual, and not to be 'too black.'" In 1969, the term great white hope came up again, When European Jerry Quarry (31-2) challenged Champion Joe Frazier (23-0) for the title. In 1982 Larry Holmes (39–0) would take on European Gerry Cooney (25–0). Holmes received death threats from the KKK leading up to this mismatch. In 1991 another great white hope Tommy Morrison (28–0) would take on Champion Ray Mercer (17–0). Tommy would get stopped, easy work. In 2007, Floyd Mayweather (38-0) Fought Ricky Hatton (43-0). A fight that exposed Hatton as being a clumsy beatable fighter. Even tho he was built up to look devastating. In 2013, Floyd Mayweather (44-0) Took on Mexican Hypestar Saul Alvarez (42-0). In a fight that Alvarez looked normal, and looked like the quit midway thru the fight. 2017 we have Floyd Mayweather vs another hype Connor Mcgregor. Not a battle for the titles, but a ski mask title fight for ppv numbers. Mayweather holds the record with over 4 million ppv buys and Mcgregor holds the record in UFC for most ppv buys. The reason why Floyd is the richest boxer ever. Because he chased the white hopes (de la hoya, Hatton, Marquez, Alvarez, Mcgregor). Great white hypes bring in the $$$. Great white hopes will never beat a real fighter. So it's up to the boxer if he wants to ski mask his career to the bank like Floyd and avoid any black undefeated fighters, it didnt work out for Ali, Liston, Holyfield, Tyson. Who all ended up going broke. Boxers need be in the game to steal the most money, even if that means beating up great white hopes every fight. What's the point of being one of the greatest if you come out the boxing game broke?
